1998 Virginia Open
The 1998 Virginia Open was held on Sept. 18-20 at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Danville. 18 players participated (7 rounds at 4 games per rd) in the one-division ty. Paul Davis, of Rosehill Va. was the overall winner and Va State champion. Tim Laverty was tied for 1st in game points, but in second on honor points. Then followed Les Balderson, Henry Headinger, Gene Westmoreland, Merle Vaughn, Billy McClintock, Matt Clark, Elmer Donelson, and Raleigh Johnson thru the top 10 places. The overall prize was $825. The 1999 Virginia State Ty will return to the same H.J. Hotel in Danville. Submitted by Les Balderson.
